So, you’ve written a Book and now you want a nice looking cover. Use a Graphic Designer - that’s the best option isn’t it? Well not necessarily. If you have a reasonable grasp of simple arithmatic and have good idea how you want it to look then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a go yourself. You need to know: The finished size of your book. The width of the spine. What do I need to work out the spine width? The number of pages in your book The weight of paper you want for the inner pages of your book. Then you need to decide if any printing is to go close to the edge in which case we need to add bleed.
