DIGITALLY PRINTED PAPERBACK BOOKS
A budget range of digitally produced black & white paperback books with a laminated full colour outer cover. This new product has 2 main advantages over the traditional offset litho method. First the overall cost tends to be lower for run lengths below 500 (although this figure varies wildly depending on size and page count). Secondly, once the initial print run has been made you can request reprints at a later date of only a handful and the cost per copy remains the same regardless of whether you need 25 more or 250. So if you think you just might have a best seller on your hands but can't risk thousands of pounds up front on boxes and boxes of books that might not sell then this is for you. Order 100 now and if it's a sell-out come back for more later at the same cost per copy.

What Does It Cost - There are 3 separate costs to consider.

1.	First of all there is a Set Up Fee. This is the same regardless of the size of the book or the number of pages. The actual Set Up Fee varies with what you are going to supply us to work with.
2.	Then there is the cost for printing the inner pages. This depends on the finished size of the book. There are only 2 options available although the finished size can fall anywhere within these 2 options. These are called A5 small and A4 small.
3.	Then there is the cost for printing & laminating the cover and then binding the book. This depends on the finished size of the book. There are only 2 options available.

3. PRINTING OF THE COVER, LAMINATING & BINDING

EXAMPLE A
You provide us with a "camera ready" PDF for us to feed straight into our process system without any corrections being necessary by us. You have designed your work as A5 (210 x 148.5mm) and will get back a book measuring approximately 204 x 145.5mm. The outer cover is in full colour and it is to be gloss laminated. There are 150 inner pages (75 sheets) which are to be printed in black on 80gsm white digital uncoated bond paper. You order 100 books.

1. Set Up Fee		£60

2. Printing of Inner Pages (150 pages x 1p per page)	£1.50 per book
3. Printing of the Cover, Laminating + Binding	£0.90 per book
Cost per book	£2.40

100 Books	£2.40 x 100	£240

Reprint Costs If you ask for a reprint at a later date (without any changes whatsoever to the book) then there will be no set up charge so in this example each book will cost £2.40 each. However, there is a minimum reprint cost of £70.

EXAMPLE B

There are 100 inner pages (50 sheets) which are to be printed in black on 80gsm white digital uncoated bond paper. You order 100 books.

Bar Code If you supply us with your ISBN number we can obtain a bar code for you at a cost of £25 which will include us positioning it on the outer back cover in a space left by you for this purpose.

TECHNICAL NOTES

Laminated Covers
Our standard prices are for covers printed on 240gsm laminated white art board. The printing is in one colour or full colour on the outer cover ONLY. The inner cover MUST BE LEFT BLANK.

Inner Pages
Our standard prices are for the inner pages being printed in black ink on white 80gsm bond paper. For 100gsm white bond paper please add the prices shown above.

Margins
As books are trimmed on all 3 edges after binding it is important that you leave a sufficient gap around all 4 edges of your artwork of 13mm (and at least 15mm on the binding edge). However, this is the minimum we need and where possible we suggest you leave more - especially on the binding edge.

Cockeling & Skew
Digital books can suffer from a slight waviness called cockeling. This is normal and unavoidable. Storing books in "Living Room Conditions" can help reduce this. All digital printing can suffer from a slight skew and exact sheet to sheet registration cannot be guaranteed. If this is critical to you then choose our Offset Litho Books instead.

Collection
As the prices quoted include delivery, if you can collect from our premises then we will give you a 4% discount.

Payment & Discounts
To keep the cost of this product as low as possible we are unable to offer any further discounts apart from 4% if you can collect. We therefore require payment in full before the work leaves our office.

Hard Copy
We can only work from your hard copy for the text pages. You will have to supply the artwork for the outer cover or any colour pages electronically. It may be possible for us to scan colour pages or previously printed covers but this will be at an extra cost and we will need to discuss this with you.

Reprint of Old Books
If you supply us with an old book to reprint then we can only do this by taking it apart and cutting bits off. It can't be put back together afterwards although we will of course supply you with the unbound parts back. You will also have to provide some form of evidence that you hold the copyright to reproduce the book.

Spine Width
We are happy to work this out for you but if you are technically minded you can follow this formulae.
By way of example a 100 page book (50 sheets) printed on 80gsm will require a spine width of 5.65mm. If printed on 100gsm then this will be 6.90mm.
